Se cumple dos años de la muerte de Burt Bacharach, uno de los más brillantes y prolíficos compositores de la historia del pop.
El compositor, letrista, productor discográfico, pianista y cantante estadounidense Burt Bacharach murió por causas naturales en su casa de Los Ángeles, California, a los de 94 años. Con Hal David escribió muchas canciones clásicas, entre ellas «Close To You», «24 Hours From Tulsa», «Make It Easy On Yourself», «Magic Moments» y «I Say A Little Prayer», por sólo citar unas pocas.
Ganó dos premios Oscar por la banda sonora de la película «Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid» y por la canción «Raindrops Keep Fallin’ On My Head». Las canciones de Bacharach han sido grabadas por más de 1000 artistas, y, hasta 2014, escribió la friolera de 73 éxitos Top 40 en Estados Unidos y 52 en el Reino Unido.
El catálogo de Burt Bacharach, que incluye además 9 canciones nº 1, 48 éxitos TOP 10, y más de 500 composiciones, lo compró Primary Wave Music Publishing en una asociación estratégica a largo plazo de varios millones de dólares que también incluyó una opción para adquirir una asociación de interés en las obras.
Bacharach fue uno de los principales compositores pop del siglo XX, ganador del Oscar y ganador también de varios premios Grammy y Tony. El último premio lo recibió el año pasado, el Premio ICON del Guild of Music Supervisors.
Entre los numerosos artistas que han grabado canciones escritas por Bacharach están Dionne Warwick, The Beatles, Aretha Franklin, Tom Jones, Dusty Springfield, Carpenters, Neil Diamond, Sandie Shaw, Patti Labelle, Elvis Costello y Rod Stewart.
Burt Bacharach afirmó en una ocasión:
“La mayoría de los compositores se sientan solos en una habitación y nadie les ve. La gente puede haber escuchado algunas de sus canciones, pero nunca llegan a verlas en el escenario o en la televisión. Pero tengo la oportunidad de hacer una conexión directa con la gente. Ya sea solo un apretón de manos o que te detengan en la calle y te pidan un autógrafo o que alguien comente una canción que he escrito. Esa conexión es realmente significativa y poderosa para mí”.
Sus canciones más conocidas incluyen “They Long To Be Close To You”, “Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head”, “That’s What Friends Are For”, “Walk On By”, “What The World Needs Now Is Love”, «My Little Red Book» y “There’s Always Something There To Remind Me».
A través de la citada asociación, que según el LA Times lo fue al 50% y valorada en «figuras de ocho cifras», Primary Wave comercializará el nombre y la imagen de Bacharach, y gestionará las actividades de marketing a través de la marca de marketing, marca de la compañía de 14 años de antigüedad, publicidad, estrategia digital, licencias, oportunidades de sincronización y extensiones de producción de cine y televisión.
